After years of contributing to a genre that was once thought to not exist today, our beloved Puffy, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Diddy (whichever you know him as) has announced his retirement from music. The Bad Boy records mogul is trading in music for an acting career.
Covering the June issue of Cigar Aficionado Magazine, Diddy discussed his retirement and the next phase of his life:
“I’m going to put out my last album and devote 100 percent of my time doing films….I want to stop at a great place.”
No Way Out, his forthcoming and final album, will mark the final chapter for such a strong presence in the music industry.
“When I’m gone, only the songs will survive. Know I’m making music that will live on. I don’t go into the studio just to be hot or to hear myself on the radio.”
Puff possesses great power in the music world with his marketing strategies and acting as one of the greatest A&R’s for the culture– known for discovering some of the genre’s biggest talents including Mary J. Blige, Lil Kim and of course, Notorious B.I.G.
Until the curtains close, Diddy is gearing up for the kick off of his Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour on May 20, with an additional date honoring Biggie’s birthday at the Barclays Center. After that, it’ll all be over. *sheds thug tear*
Mr. Combs has starred in the TV adaption of A Raisin in the Sun and made a cameo in the comedy Get Him to the Greek, but is pretty much a rookie in the acting world. We aren’t worried, though. He’ll Diddy Bop through the pressure.
